Scotland Yard Web Edition is the web-based version designed to run on your network environment (Intranet). If your server is open to the Internet, your employee's can access the software via a browser from remote locations.

All software is installed on your server (or dedicated workstation)
Acces to the Scotland Yard is via web-browsers on the client workstation.
The client software is developed in Adobe Flex offering a truly Rich Internet Application interface.
Unlike traditional web applications, the Flex client is loaded once per session and only the data is updated on refreshes. In other words, the Scotland Yard flex client application behaves like a true Windows client.
Additional Mobile versions are under development.
Employee Directory displays managers and direct reports.
Rock solid performance using MS SQL Server.
The Web Edition does not require a separate Scheduler installation for updating employee's calendars (as Scotland Yard Class requires)
The Web Edition requires MS SQL Server or MS SQL Server Express as a prerequisite.

Scotland Yard Classic is the Windows-based version that can run under Windows Servers, Dedicated Workstations, or Novell Servers (Yes, some companies still use Novell!). Scotland Yard Classic runs under a network share (folder) so it's very easy to install and access. Scotland Yard Classic isn't designed to run on Intranets, or multi-location environments.

The Scotland Yard Classic software is installed on the server and when run the application (exe) is loaded onto the workstation.
Very easy to install and to get started.
The optional Scheduler requires a separate download and server installation to enable auto updates of calendar items.
Works well for local LAN environments (Windows or Novell).
The database used is Microsoft FoxPro.
Does not support mobile access.
